TERMS AND PRIVACY
The conditions for using Saldo Zero, and what it does with your data. For any question, write to hola@saldozero.app.
TERMS OF USE
These terms are an agreement between you and Rodrigo Lopez, a private individual in Uruguay, who runs Saldo Zero ("we"), and they govern the iPhone app and the saldozero.app website. By tapping I agree in the app you accept these terms and the privacy notice, which is on this page and forms part of them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Who can use Saldo Zero
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are between 13 and 17, you need the consent of your parent or guardian to use the app.
What Saldo Zero is and is not
Saldo Zero keeps track of who owes whom in a small, closed group. Whoever paid creates a request and each person accepts or rejects their share. In Virtual mode, the accepted share becomes a balance that is settled later; in With receipt mode, you transfer the money outside the app and upload the receipt, which closes your share. Recurring bills open a month for the person who pays.
Saldo Zero is a record of what the members of a group declare and accept between themselves. The app does not create debts, does not collect or claim them, and its balances are not a document of debt. If someone owes something to another person, that exists and is resolved between you, outside the app.
Saldo Zero never moves money or holds funds, and it is not a payment service, a bank, a currency exchange or a lender. It does not verify that a receipt is authentic or that a transfer happened: it shows what your group recorded and accepted, and any differences are resolved between you. The exchange rates you see (Banco Central del Uruguay or another your group chooses) are approximate and never change a balance.
Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google, and you are responsible for that access and for what is done from your account. Do not impersonate anyone else. Saldo Zero is free: no advertising, in-app purchases, subscriptions or artificial intelligence.
Groups, requests and records
You join a group with its invite code. Whoever creates it is its admin: they invite and remove members, hand the role to someone else and change the settings. To leave a group, or for the admin to remove you, your balances there must be zero, with no open share and no payment waiting to be confirmed; an admin first hands over the role.
Everything that happens in a group is visible to its members. Every change to a balance is a permanent record: a mistake is fixed with a visible correction that gives its reason, never erased. A virtual share expires after 30 days without an answer; a share with receipt does not expire, and whoever made the request has 7 days from the receipt's upload to dispute it with a reason.
Your content and receipts
What you add (requests, reasons, receipts, your payout card) remains yours. You give us permission to store it and show it only so that Saldo Zero works, including to the members of your groups; we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
You are responsible for what you upload. A receipt may contain other people's data, any member of the group can open it and it is not deleted: crop out what you do not want to share, as the app reminds you. JPEG, PNG, HEIC and PDF files of up to 10 MB are accepted. Saldo Zero does not verify bank accounts: keep your payout card correct.
Acceptable use
You may not use Saldo Zero to:
- break the law or infringe the rights of others;
- create false requests, upload altered receipts or record payments that did not happen;
- harass or deceive other members, or upload illegal content;
- access other groups' data, overload the service or get around its security;
- copy or decompile the app beyond what the law allows;
- share an invite code against the group's wishes.
Intellectual property
Saldo Zero, its name, its logo and its software are ours and are protected by law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the app as intended. All other rights are reserved.
Third-party services
Saldo Zero runs on Apple (App Store, notifications, Sign in with Apple), Google (Sign in with Google) and Supabase, which stores the data and the receipts in the United States, as the privacy notice explains. If you choose to send a payment reminder by WhatsApp, Saldo Zero only prepares the text; the message is sent from your WhatsApp. Those services have their own terms and we are not responsible for them.
Availability
Saldo Zero is a free service that may have interruptions and errors, and we may change, pause or close it. If we close it, we will give reasonable notice so that your group can settle its accounts.
Liability
We are liable for the direct damages we cause you through our fault or willful misconduct, in accordance with Uruguayan law. We are not liable for what the members of a group owe each other, for transfers outside the app, for false receipts or payments not made, or for the decisions of other members. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damages or loss of profits, and you are liable for third-party claims arising from what you uploaded or from a use contrary to these terms. If you are a consumer under Ley 17.250, nothing here limits the rights that law gives you and that cannot be waived.
Ending
You can stop using Saldo Zero whenever you want, and delete your account from your profile (your avatar at the top of Home) once your balances are zero in all your groups, you have no open share and no payment waiting to be confirmed, and you have handed every group you run that has other members to someone else. The privacy notice explains what is deleted and what the others keep, for whom you appear as a deleted member.
If you seriously breach these terms, we may close your account. Intellectual property, liability and governing law remain in force after closure.
Apple's App Store
These terms are between you and us, not with Apple, which has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Saldo Zero is free: there is no price to refund. Apple is not responsible for warranties, for claims about the app (product liability, legal compliance, consumer protection) or for third-party intellectual property claims: those fall to us. You declare that you are not in a country under a United States embargo or on a United States list of prohibited parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You must also comply with any third-party terms that apply.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; each version stays here with its date. If a change is significant, we will tell you before it applies and you can stop using the app or delete your account. Continuing to use it afterwards means you accept the new version.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of Uruguay. Any dispute is resolved before the courts of Montevideo, unless a mandatory rule, such as those protecting consumers, allows you to go to the courts where you live.
These terms are a translation of the Spanish "Términos de uso". If the two differ, the Spanish text prevails.

PRIVACY NOTICE
Saldo Zero is an app for small closed groups of people who owe each other money: couples, households, flatmates, a shared subscription. This notice explains what it keeps, who can see it, where it is stored and what you can ask for. The app shows the same notice before you start, and you agree to it there.
Who is responsible
Saldo Zero is run by Rodrigo Lopez (rlopez@dotkn.com), a private individual in Uruguay, who is responsible for its database. Write to hola@saldozero.app for anything about your data.
What Saldo Zero keeps
- Your account: the name you choose, the email address Apple or Google shares when you sign in, and an internal user id.
- Your groups: the groups you create or join, and the requests, amounts, currencies, reasons, decisions, payments, corrections and recurring bills you and your groups add.
- Receipts: the photos and PDF files you upload to show a transfer.
- Payout cards: how to pay you (for example a bank and account number), only if you add one.
- Notifications: your device's notification token and whether it is a test or store build, so notifications reach you.
- Your consent: which version of this notice and of the payout card notice you agreed to, and when.
Saldo Zero does not collect your location, your contacts, advertising identifiers, analytics or crash reports, and it does not track you across other apps or websites.
Why
Only to run the app: to show each group what its members owe each other, record each decision, send reminders and notifications, and let members settle up. Your data is not sold, not shared with advertisers and not used for advertising.
Who sees it
Everyone in a group sees that group's requests, decisions, balances and history. Every member of the group can open a receipt you upload, so crop out what you do not want to share. If you add a payout card, the members of your groups can see it. Someone who leaves a group stops seeing it. Nobody outside your groups sees your data.
What it never does
Saldo Zero never moves money. It records what the people in your group owe each other and what they say they paid. Transfers happen outside the app, through your bank or any other means you choose.
Where it is kept, and who helps
- Supabase stores the database, the receipt files and the sign-in accounts, on Amazon Web Services servers in the United States.
- Apple delivers notifications and provides Sign in with Apple.
- Google provides Sign in with Google, if you use it.
Storing data in the United States is an international transfer under Uruguay's personal data law (Ley 18.331, article 23). By agreeing to this notice you consent to that transfer. Data travels encrypted and the provider encrypts it at rest. Inside the database, every read is checked against your group membership.
Permanent records
Every change to a balance is kept as a permanent record. A mistake is fixed with a visible correction that gives its reason, never erased, so every member can trust the history.
How long, and leaving
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account from your profile (your avatar at the top of Home) once your balances are settled, nothing is waiting for a decision (an open line or a payment to confirm), and every group you run has been handed to another member. Deleting it removes your name, email, payout cards, group memberships and notification tokens. The other members keep their history: the amounts, dates, decisions and receipts you were part of stay in their groups and show a deleted member. Your sign-out also removes that device's notification token.
Your rights
Under Ley 18.331 you can ask to access the data Saldo Zero keeps about you, and to correct, update, add to or delete it. Write to hola@saldozero.app from the address you sign in with; you will get an answer within the time the law sets. Permanent records shared with your groups are kept as described above. You can also complain to the Unidad Reguladora y de Control de Datos Personales (URCDP), gub.uy/urcdp.
Children
Saldo Zero is not meant for children under 13.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, the app shows the new version and asks you to agree before you continue. Each version is listed here with its date.
